ENGL 150: WRITING AND RESEARCH (HONORS)

FINAL EXAM MATERIALS

FALL 2005

Exam Question: Should the U.S. government begin to make plans to withdraw military forces from Iraq now, or should it wait until the Iraqi government and its military forces are stable to begin planning a withdrawal of troops?

When you arrive at the final exam, you will be assigned one of these two positions, and your in-class essay will develop an
argument that supports that position. Again, the instructor will assign the position you will argue--you will not be able to choose. Use only the documents below, and your own analysis of the documents below, to support your argument.

After the written portion of the exam we will engage in a verbal debate on this issue. Feel free to draw on any information you have on this topic during the debate portion of the exam. Your performance in this debate will be a factor in your final grade.

You may bring to the exam printed versions of the documents below (I'll also have a few copies available to consult), and two 3x5 note cards containing outlines of the two possible arguments.

Please bring a blue book to the final exam and a printed bibliography for the six items below (format of your choice).

Important: Please do not discuss the exam or the exam materials with each other before the exam. Doing so will be considered an Honor Code violation.
